Coun. A. H. Varney of Brampton

Coun. A. H. Varney, of 3, Knollbeck Avenue, Brampton Bierlow, who has been elected to Rotherham Rural Council, has been on Brampton Parish Council for 11 years and was one of the founders of the Labour Party Group in Brampton,

He represented the Wentworth Division of the Labour Party at the Edinburgh Conference in 1936 and for four years was secretary of Brampton Children’s Outing Fund  He has been a member of the Y.M.A. since he started work in the pit and is on the Wath Main Branch Committee.

He has worked in the pit for 42 years and is now on the haulage at Wath Main Colliery.  He is a governor of Wath Gramar School.
