New Church For Old
Congregational Enterprise At Wombwell
Appeal For More Funds
“Hats off to the past, coats off for the future”. Upon this happy text the Congregationalists of Wombwell came into a new and richer heritage yesterday.
The day witnessed the opening of the new church in Summer Lane, Wombwell, a building which supersedes the old church in High Street.
It was the most important day for congregationalism of the district since the old church was opened ten years after Mr. William Utley, manager of Wombwell Main Colliery, had arranged for the joiners’ shop in the pit yard to be prepared for Summer School and Sunday evening services.
