Mitchell Main Now Ready for Visitors

A brighter prospect for Mitchell Main Cricket was forecast by Mr H Jones, manager of Darfield Main Colliery, when he presided at the annual meeting of Mitchell Main Cricket club in the welfare Institute, Netherwood Hall on Friday.

Mr Jones use the term in two senses, the practical one having allusion to the fact that Mitchell Main Coke Ovens had been closed down. He said they would now be free of the nuisance of smoke and fumes which had made life down at Mitchell Main somewhat unpleasant for many seasons past.

It would now be a pleasure to introduce visitors. Mr Jones took the opportunity of thanking the workmen for their continued financial support without which it would be impossible for the club to carry on. He mentioned that there was a possibility of a scheme for the provision of new seating been put into operation during the summer.

Their Fixtures

The secretary, Mr Loxley Boocock, said he had completed the Yorkshire Council fixtures for the coming season. He said they had dropped from section “A” to section “B” of the South Riding league, but this downgrading had its advantages in giving them the opportunity of meeting new club and visiting new ground. He was glad to report that this year they would have the pleasure of meeting their neighbours, Wombwell Main and Darfield.

Mr Boocock reported that they had granted an application by Wombwell Cricket Lovers Society for the use of the ground for six under games during the season.
