Missing Wombwell Child Found Drowned

Last night at 5.30 the body of Esther White, aged nine, daughter of Squire White, miner, 14 Edward St, Wombwell was recovered from the canal.

She had left home on Saturday to buy some sweets, and had not been heard of until her body was noticed floating in the canal by W Davis Lloyd, of New Street, Darfield near to the gasworks at Wombwell.

Dragging operations were being carried on about 200 yards away at the time the body was noticed by Davis
