Lt.-Col. H. R. Caulfield Giles, transport and traffic manager of Messrs. Newton Chambers and Co. Ltd., addressed a meeting of the Sheffield section of the National Trades Technical Societies at the Sheffield University Department of Applied Science last week on post-war transport.
Major Lloyd George, Minister of Fuel and Power, replying to a question in the House of Commons on Tuesday said the coming winter is likely to be the most difficult of the war for domestic supplies of coal. It is imperative that all consumers should exercise the most rigorous economy and that everybody that can build up stocks during the next few months should do so within the limits allowed.
The trustees of the Miners’ Welfare and National Scholarships and Students Exhibition Funds announce the award of 15 scholarships and six exhibitions including the following:
Betty M. Linford of Royston, Newnham College, University of Cambridge, honours degree course in history; exhibitions:
Mabel Barber, of Thurnscoe, University of Manchester, honours degree course in general science;
Jean Frost, of Treeton, University of Sheffield, honours degree course in French.
Mr. H. E. Bunting, Executive Officer of Barnsley has been appointed Food Executive Officer for Darlington County borough and the rural district of Darlington and Croft. A former journalist, Mr. Bunting is well known in Mexborough and his wife (formerly Miss C. Chambers), comes of a Mexborough family.
