Low Valley Rescue
Unemployed Miner’s Gallantry
The deep and dangerous brick pond at Low Valley was the scene of another thrilling rescue on Tuesday. Hearing cries from a number of children who were playing in the vicinity of the pond, Fred Harper (24), an unemployed miner, rushed to the place and found a young girl struggling in the water. Fully clothed, he plunged and brought the girl to the side, where she recovered after a few minutes’ attention.
She was Eliza Davies (12). daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davies, Providence Street, Low Valley. The children had their boots and stockings off and had gone there to paddle. The pond, which is an old clay pit, is very deep and slopes sharply. Harper’s promptitude undoubtedly saved the girl’s life.
