Little Betty Askew

Little Betty Askew has made an early debut before a London audience. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Askew of 7, Summer Lane, Wombwell, she gave a recital at a concert at the Royal Academy of Music on Saturday.

The concert was organised by Mr. J. Hullah Brown of London and was given by violinists under the age of ten. The purpose of the concert was to promote violin playing among young people as a challenge to “canned” music, which, it is feared, will kill young talent.

Betty is truly a prodigy for she is only seven and has been studying the violin only six months. She exhibits no shyness when performing. Indeed, she will not practise unless she has an audience.

Betty’’s talents are not confined to the violin, for she is quite a capable performer on saxophone. She is being taught by her brother, Mr. Jack Askew.
