Ward’s Wonderful Saves

Lincoln City Reserves 9 Wombwell Town  1

Wombwell were defeated 9-1 by Lincoln for the second time this season on Saturday, having succumbed by a similar score to the Lincolnshire side at Wombwell earlier in the season.

As at Denaby the contested the first half sternly but fell away after the interval, conceding seven goals in the second half. With the wind in their favour Wombwell launched the first attack but were beaten off, and thereafter Ward had a busy time but performed with credit and was not beaten until approaching the interval. when HALL opened Lincoln’s account. SIMMONS got a second goal a minute later.

Ward had previously saved from Hall and Riley in dazzling fashion and was loudly applauded by the crowd. Lincoln overwhelmed the visitors in the second half and though Ward continued to perform prodigies and the other defenders stuck doggedly to their task further goals were scored by RILEY. HALL (2). GAMMON (2), and BUCKLEY (2), THACKERY getting Wombwell’s solitary goal.
