Leaving Wombwell

Rev CH Sheldrake for York Church

The Rev Charles Hunter Sheldrake, resident Minister of Barnsley Road Methodist Church Wombwell, and superintendent of the Hoyland circuit, will leave the district on August 12 to take over the Monkgate Circuit, York.

He will be in charge of the Monkgate Methodist Church, a fine structure in the shadow of the Minster just outside the north gate of the city leading to Scarborough.

He left Hemsworth for the appointment to Wombwell three years ago.

Though only three years duration, Mr Sheldrake’s ministry in Wombwell has been quite notable. Outside his own routine circuit work he has developed and achieved a good deal in preserving spiritual and organic unity between the various denominations in the town, and enjoyed a very happy relationships with other church leaders.

His work in connection with the Coronation celebrations at Wombwell was much appreciated by all sections.

He will be much missed in Wombwell, as will Mr Sheldrake.
