Lad of Distinct Promise – Jim Senior

March 1927

If you mention the name of Senior in connection with sport in the Dearne Valley it will be assumed immediately that you’re talking of cricket. The analogy, however doesn’t always hold for today’s Senior has left the track of tradition and gone in for football.

Our photograph is of Jim Senior, Jr, centre forward for Wombwell St Marys.

As a footballer, he has to have lot of rough knocked off before he is likely to attract the attention of better class clubs, but at the same time he is a lad of distinct promise.

He his one of the neatest dribblers the district has yet produced and once he sets his mind on goal he is defiant of all obstacles. The spirit in which he tackles his work is infectious, and he has inspired the “Saints” to many deeds they would not have achieved without his dashing example. He will be indispensable to the Parish Church team if they take up league football next season.

The son of Jim Senior, the Mitchell main groundsman, and a talented cricketer himself, young Senior is 19 years of age, stands 5 feet 8 ½ inches and is well built.
