Hopes to be York Chorister

July 1932

Mexborough and Swinton Times, July 15th, 1932

Kenneth Doughty the ten-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Osmond Doughty of 33, Mellor Road, Wombwell is entertaining high ambition.  He hopes some day to become a chorister at York Minster, and with that aim in view has already entered upon a course of study.

Mr. Doughty, a tenor vocalist, has been in the Wombwell Parish Church choir for 20 years and when Kenneth was only five, he entered him as a member.  Often in such performances members of the Parish Church have been charmed by his voice.

Good judges of vocal music prophesy a successful future for him.  He has already won prizes in musical festivals at Elsecar, Stocksbridge and Mexborough.  At Staleybridge last week he was placed third in the boys’ treble solo.
