Headmaster’s Move to Dalton

Two main features of school life are threatened by the impending departure from the village of Broomhill of Mr. George H. Illsley, who has been headmaster of the Council School for five years.

One is the school garden, the other the Christmas treat. Regarding both there is concern among young and old in the village, and the best that can be hoped for is that the new head, when appointed, will take up the good work where Mr. Illsley has left off.

Mr. Illsley has been appointed headmaster of the Dalton (Rotherham) Junior Mixed and Infants’ School of 370 children, and will take up his new duties at the beginning of next month.

While the villagers appreciate his promotion from a much smaller school, they realise only too well that in the exchange they will lose one who, in his relationships with young and old, has been a “guide, philosopher, and friend.” He confesses that he has had a soft place in his heart for Broomhill. He has certainly done good and useful work for the village.
