Gallant Wombwell Boy
“Full dress rescue from drowning.”

A gallant rescue from drowning was made at Wombwell last Thursday by Cyril Law, aged 14 of 21 Hall St, Wombwell.

Law was playing football in the field in Broomhill Lane, when Frank Hollings, aged seven, son of a widow who resides in Broomhill Lane, fell into the canal. All you

Law rushed to the water side, and without hesitation plunged in fully dressed. With considerable difficulty he got the other boy to the bank, where he recovered under artificial respiration.

Law retired modestly after his plucky effort, but was greatly upset when he discovered he had lost his glasses in the water. People who watch the rescue from a distance spoke warmly of his bravery. But for his prompt action the younger lad would certainly have been drowned.

Hollings was “fishing” with his brother, when he lost his balance and fell into the water.
