MIDLAND LEAGUE.
Wombwell put up a Good Show at Gainsborough.
Three thousand spectators witnessed a fine match at Gainsborough last night, when the Trinity beat Wombwell by three goals to one.
Trinity made four changes, and the new introductions, Wield, Tellurn, Keen, and Cowan, did well. Wombwell put up a capital fight, and, although Keen and Talbot put on goals for Trinity in the first half, Wombwell were not inferior by that margin.
After the interval T. Smelt scored for Wombwell. The best goal of the match was that headed by Cowan, after splendid work by Talbot and Shearman.
Wombwell’s exhibition showed that they look like proving themselves a decided acquisition to the League. They have a clever forward line, which should score goals, and a strong, bustling defence.
