Gained admittance to United Independent College, Bradford,

Mr. Ronald Newman Sewell, eighteen-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Sewell, of ” Clipstone,” 41 Broomhead Road, Wombwell, has gained admittance into United Independent College, Bradford, and is to proceed to Edinburgh University for a four years’ course with a view to securing an M.A. degree as a preliminary to entering the Congregational ministry.

Later he will take a three years’ course in theology at Bradford.

Born at Mexborough, when his father, now a traffic inspector with the Yorkshire Traction Company, was chief inspector for the Mexborough and Swinton Traction Company, Mr. N. Sewell attended John Street Council School, Wombwell, and won a County Minor scholarship which took him to Wath Grammar School.

While there he set up a 5 minutes 10 seconds record for the senior mile which still stands.

Since 1936 he has been emloyed as a cash clerk at the Wombwell depot of the Yorkshire Traction Company.

He is at present assistant organist of the Wombwell Congregational Church and for some years has been a leader in the primary department.

He passed  entrance examinations at Bradford a fortnight ago
