First prize in National Scripture Examination

Miss Ruth Beardsall, age 15, a daughter of Mr and Mrs L.G.Beardsall, of Main Street Wombwell, has won the first prize in a National Scripture examination promoted by the Primitive Methodist Connection.

She gained the full hundred marks. Miss Kathleen Varney, of Barnsley Road, Wombwell, was second with 98 marks.

Miss Bearsall’s success gave great satisfaction to members of the Wombwell Primitive Methodist Church.

She is a granddaughter of an old Primitive Methodist stalwart, the late Mr George Beardsall, and her elder brother is a minister in the South of England.

Miss Beardsall attends the Barnsley Girls High School.
