First Class Honours Degree

Friends of Councillor J Winder and Mrs Winder will be pleased to learn that their son, Mr Ronald Winder, has gained a B.A. degree with first class honours at Sheffield University

Mr Winder was a scholar at the John Street (Wombwell) elementary school, and the Barnsley Grammar School.

He passed the Oxford Joint Examination with honours in 1924, won the highest school certificate, gained distinction every possible subject, and was awarded the County Major Scholarship and State Scholarship.

He won the Edgar Allen scholarship of £125 a year for three years, tenable at Sheffield University.

In 1927 he passed the intermediate went on to secure a first class honours degree in modern languages (English and French).

In 1928 he won the diploma of the University of Rennes (France) and this year won a travelling scholarship awarded by this Society of French Professors in England.
