Fine Young All-Rounder for Wombwell

George A Smith of Rotherham, who was “signed” by Wombwell after their practice game last Saturday, is a young athlete of considerable promise.

He is but 20 years of age, but he sturdily built, being 5’7” and 11 stone 9 lbs. he played football for Rotherham Grammar School and later for Greaseborough Working Mens Club, New Stubbin (Association League) and while at Chester College during the last two years gained his colours.

During vacation he played for Rotherham United Reserves. He plays equally well at inside right or inside left.

He is also a skilful boxer, played in the college first cricket team, and as a swimmer won the junior championship of Rotherham for three successive years; the senior swimming championship, and the Yorkshire Junior YMCA championship in 1924. At Chester he won the college swimming championship.
