Learns of Sons Scholarship Success

Lying in bed with a fractured spine, Mr John C Taylor, of The Old Homestead, Park Street Wombwell learned with pride today that his only son, John Boris Taylor (17), a pupil of Wath grammar school, had won a County scholarship which will take him to Manchester University.

Mr Taylor came through the Great Warden unscathed, after enlisted as a private from Penistone Grammar School and rising to a captaincy.

Three weeks ago he fell 15 feet from a scaffold using the construction of a new hotel at Doncaster. At Doncaster infirmary it was found he had a fractured spine and the fractured rib, in addition to head injuries. There are a hopes he will make a complete recovery.

Boris Taylor is spoken of by his masters as a brilliant pupil. He intends to take up industrial chemistry. He is a member of the school orchestra, playing the violin, and is an accomplished swimmer, holding life-saving and other certificates.
