The contest in Central Ward promises to be an interesting one. The retiring candidate who will oppose Mr. Burrows is Mr.Tom Newsome,

Mr Newsome was returned at his first attempt and is now well established in public administration. He is a prominent member of Wombwell Primitive Methodist Church and an official of the Yorkshire Miners Association at Mitchell. Main.

During his service as councillor he has devoted himself largely to infant welfare work and was primarily responsible for the establishment in Wombwell of an ultraviolet ray treatment centre.

Wombwell was the first urban authority in the country to introduce a public violet ray centre.
