Elaine Strikes Gold
Completing in her first festival outside this district, Elaine Carol Corker, of 18, Woolley Avenue, Wombwell gained her first gold medal at Lytham Saint Anne’s Festival
For good measure, she gained gold medals in two classes, and honours in five of the seven dance sections in which she competed. He
Dancing with two other local girls. Jane Nettleton and Joanne Rowley of Darfield, she won a gold medal in the ballet trio section and also a gold in the song and dance class.
Elaine and her sister Jill (6) both started taking dancing lessons nearly four years ago, and little sister Kay Kathryn (2) is “raring to go”.
They learn tap and ballet, and between them have gained more than 30 certificates. Elaine previously won a bronze medal at a Doncaster festival, and has passed two examinations in ballet and tap.
Jill, who like her sister is a pupil at Kings Road Council School, has obtained honours at three festivals she has so far entered, and has won a medal in an examination.
Mr. and Mrs. Corker are to donate a trophy, to be named the “Kathryn” trophy, to the newly-formed Darfield festival due to be held in August.
The two little girls are keenly looking forward to the Summer holidays, when they are to make their first trip abroad. Their grandmother is taking them on holiday to Arenal, Majorca,
