Denaby & Cadeby 186 for 8 Wombwell Main 17
At Denaby, the League leaders administered a most thorough-going trouncing of Wombwell Main, whose efforts were made to look puny indeed.
Denaby rattled up total of 186 for the loss of eight wickets. The opening batsmen, Ealand scored 53 and Smith 34. G.L. Robinson batted number four and carried his bat out for 41.
Denaby then applied the closure. They might safely have done it long before they did, for the Wombwell batsmen gave a sorry exhibition. Five of them failed to score at all, three others got only a single each, and the highest effort was 5, the whole side being out for 17. They actually had eight wickets down for 3 runs I
Hofton, the ex-Glossop footballer, was the chief executioner. In 6.1- overs (of which three were maidens) he got six wickets, and had only half-a-dozen runs scored off him. The other four wickets to Luther Robinson at a coat of 7 runs, Wombwell’s total being carried to 17 by means of 4 extras.
The supporters of the Wombwell Main club may well ask what has come over the team, in view of their recent performances.
