Cricket Prospects
Mitchell Main In Council Again
Mitchell Main, who have re-entered the Yorkshire Council after a lapse of five seasons are to meet Brodsworth at Mitchell Main in their opening engagement tomorrow. Late entrants to the competition, they have been able to make fourteen fixtures which enables them to qualify for the championship. The Club left the competition in 1939 on account of ground difficulties, but the problem of flooding has now been solved by drainage measures. The pitch looks in perfect condition.
In South Yorkshire League cricket the club have been above their class. In three consecutive seasons they have won both the league championship and the merit cup. Mr. J. C. Smith, who is again to be secretary, comments: “It is clear that the Yorkshire Council is our place.” To give younger players a chance, the club will have a team in the South Yorkshire league and will run works knock-out competitions.
Mr. A. Brooke (Manager of Mitchell Main), is to be captain of the South Yorkshire League team, and Mr. R. Thornhill (Agent of Mitchell Main and Darfield Main), will play with the Council side of which Ted Evans is Captain.
