Cowley’s Challenge Accepted
Arthur Utley, the Wombwell lad who scored a knock-out win over Jimmy Hague at Platts Common a fortnight ago, is alreadv seeking new laurels and is particularly, desirous of meeting Trooper Cowley. In a letter to the “Mexborough and Swinton Times ” he writes :
Having seen Trooper Cowley’s challenge in, your paper of the 28th September I wish to say that I will meet him on any date that will suit him for £10 a side over the distance of 10 two-minute rounds.
Utley has been out of the ring for nine months with a damaged knee but his handling of Jimmy Hague shows that he has come straight back to form. Since taking to the ring again he has also defeated Tom Carter of Wigan—another knock-out win.
Although only 21 years of age Utley has appeared in 50 fights and on only three occasions has the verdict gone against him.
