Mexborough & Swinton Times – November 25th 1939
It is not unlikely that Cortonwood Colliery Company will shortly lose a member of their clerical staff to the Wesleyan Reform Ministry. This is Mr. William R. H Hesketh, of Wood Walk, Wombwell elder son of Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Hesketh, of Park Street, Wombwell, who is already entitled to use the prefix “Rev.” As such he officiated at the wedding of his sister at Elsecar last week. Mr. Hesketh gained a County Minor Scholarship from Park Street Council School, Wombwell, and has been at Cortonwood since he left Barnsley Grammar School at the age of 18.
He has been a hard worker at the Lundhill Wesleyan Reform Church and is secretary of the Rotherham and Mexborough Circuit of the Wesleyan Reform Union. He is now in his final year as a Probationer Minister in that Connexion, and when he has passed his final examinations will probably assume the pastorate of a church or churches.
The Wesleyan Reform Union have no recognised college, but his studies are directed by Wolsey Hall, Oxford, while his tutor for Greek is the Rev. A. B. Brockway, B.A., B.D , a very scholarly ex-minister of Park Street Methodist Church, Wombwell, who is now in the Channel Islands.
