Charles Jarratt -Yorkshire’s best Developed Man

A village which the malicious and ill informed have often described as the “Cinderella of South Yorkshire,” has produced “Yorkshire’s best developed man.”

The honour has been one for the village of Jump by 20 years old mineworker, Charles Jarratt, of Church Street, a “Jumpite” born and bred.”

Encouraged by this success he now intends to have a shot at the national title. Jarratt won the county title against the pick of Yorkshire at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday at a physical fitness display promoted by the advisory committee of the Yorkshire Physical Fitness campaign.

He was placed first with 38 points – one and a half points more than the runner-up. Among the losers was Jack Bailey, of Leeds, who had held the honour for three years in succession. Placed third with 36 points -was a Barnsley candidate, F. Charlesworth. Jarratt was the youngest of the entrants.

Weight Lifting Prowess

Physical culture has being Jarratt’s hobby since he left school stop he is a member of St. George’s Physical Culture Club, Jump, and is one of the club’s leading weight-lifters, his record being 232 pounds. He is well-known as a local footballer having played with St. George’s, Jump, Hoyland Queen, and Hoyland Unemployed, This season he has assisted Wright Crescent, F.C., Wombwell.

At one time he was an enthusiastic cyclist and was a member, of the now defunct Jump Cycling Club.

Encouraged by his success, his ambition now is to win a physical excellent contest, the widow which will receive the title caught Britain’s Best Developed Man.” Jarratt train for three months to in the Yorkshire competition. It is his intention to continue his training for the physical excellence contest, which takes place in London next March. He trained at home and at the jump Physical Culture Club. Pre-exercises and use of an expanded largely constitute his training. “No fancy method for me,” he says.

Members of the Jump physical culture club accompanied him to Leeds and found him characteristically modest when he had won the title.

Physical culture experts think Jarratt has a definite chance of this title.

Here are his dimensions: height 5’10”, weight 12 stone 5 pounds, neck 15 ¼ inches, biceps 13 inches, fun and 11 ¾ inches, wrist 7 ¾ inches, chess 43 ½, man chest expansion 3 ½ inches, with 28 ¾ inches, calves 15/2 inches, thighs 22 ¾ inches, and ankles 9 ½ inches.
