Champion Schoolboy.

William Skidmore (12). son of Mrs. Skidmore, 91, Brampton Road Wombwell and the late Mr. Ernest Skidmore brought honours to Wombwell Park Street Council School by winning the Wombwell schoolboy swimming championship at t h e Baths Hall, Wombwell, on Monday.

Last year he was runner-up for the Hall Shield, another schools’ event. His swimming of two lengths in 47 seconds was the best time made by any schoolboy in the gala.

William is an “all-round sport” and has had trials with the Dearne Valley schools’ cricket and football teams. His latest ambition is to take up singing. He has been able to fix up a date at the Futurist Hall, Wombwell. He wants to become a member of the Pattie Washington choir.

Mrs. Skidmore told a “Times” reporter that William could swim when he was six.
