A Great Double For Wombwell
Bridlington Trinity 0, Wombwell S.A.2
Wombwell sporting Association registered a great “double” over Bridlington Trinity, giving Wombwell maximum points from their last six matches.
It was Wombwell who put the damper on Trinity’s chances of winning the League three weeks ago at Wombwell, and they certainly rubbed their noses in it at Queen’s Gate on Saturday.
Dictated
From the word go, Sporting Association got hold of this match and dictated play right to the end.
They went straight into attack but Launders was caught offside. From the free kick Senior set West off but Wilson saved easily.
Wild then won a corner after beating two defenders. Caunt was just wide from a free kick given for obstruction on Beadle, who was getting everything in midfield. Under terrific pressure Cooper had to concede a corner and Wild headed just wide from
Whyke. This was followed by a good shot from Allen. Any chance Trinity got of breaking was soon stopped by Bill Pearce and his wing halves.
Terry Beadle was giving an exhibition of midfield play which brought the first goal after 21 minutes when he gave Launders the ball to crack in from 20 yards.
After half an hour Launders made it two when Cooper, who wasn’t having a very happy time, pass back to Fuller but the goalkeeper let it pass through his hands and launders pounce on it to put it in the net.
Trinity’s breaks were few and Cooper put over from a freekick just outside Wombwell’s penalty area.
Ankle Injury
On two or three occasions Laythe split the Bridlington defence with lovely passes, but Oliver failed to take advantage of them, due partly to an ankle injury.
After the interval Trinity stand down on Wombwell and Jones was caught offside. Then again Wombwell apply lots of pressure with launders coming near with a lob shot, then a good header by Wilde was just held by Fuller.
A promising move started by Caunt to Beadle, then Oliver, was put away for a corner by Cooper, who during this half was to concede a dozen corners.
Round
Rarely was there play at the other end but Wilson had to put a header from West away round the post. Following the corner, Burton was booked for a bad foul on Whyke. Wombwell and three more corners and Wilde had a header cleared off the line. And Lions put out long balls to Wyke on the wing but he put them behind.
Launders collected the ball in the penalty area, took it forward as Fuller advanced, down went Fuller, and Launders place his shot wide of the keeper, but the ball struck the bottom of Fuller’s boots and went for a corner.
