Bride Chosen by London

Mrs Jennifer Sheppard, daughter of Mr and Mrs J Sheppard of Wombwell, now Mrs D Cambell, 8 Guildford Rd, Wombwell, is a winner of our Pretty Bride competition which each year seems to arouse more and more interest among our readers.

Unless we hear to the contrary, photographs appearing in any of our editions of brides married during a stipulated four week period are considered. They go before a London panel of judges and London sends us its verdict.

Here then is this years. Miss Sheppard was married at Wombwell Parish Church on Easter Monday and this photograph of her is taken from the reproduction which appeared in our issue of April 8. In it she was receiving a gift from a page boy.

The chairman of the London panel writes “Once again the pretty brides of South Yorkshire and presented a good many problems to the judging panel here in London and certainly anyone of seven or eight of them could have been the winner. By very narrow majority vote the panel decided on the bride whose photograph is attached (Miss Sheppards).”

There are two prizes this year – one for the branch, one for her husband. The bride, with our best wishes goes a Ronson Rio hairdryer; to her husband, a Ronson electric razor, incorporating the special features of super trim attachment.
