The Chairman of the Urban Council, Mr H Copeland, presented certificates of the Royal Humane Society to Stanley Dickinson (12), Albert Barker (14), school was a Broomhill; and William Bowley (17), pit boy of Hawson St, Wombwell

Dickinson carried a rope over high half an inch thick on a disused clay pit at Broomhill to save a man and his boy from drowning. Barker assisted in the rescues.
