Better Brampton
Another Shock For Wath

Brampton caused one of Saturday’s surprises by defeating Wath. The match, which yielded 462 runs, was decided by a margin of only 36 and provided one of the brightest displays seen on the Brampton ground this season. Albert Smith, who is batting as well as ever he did, made a confident opening on wicket made for runs though Crowcroft fell early, and Dodds quickly followed. One of Smith’s hard drives resulted in his dismissal for 52, through a catch. Young batted very attractively and just failed to make his first half-century in Council cricket. He seemed quite comfortable during his stay with Haigh, who had the; pleasure of making top score for his side. The “tail” wagged briskly.
A characteristic display by Bernard Senior (picture) and Charlie Potts gave Wath a good send off on their task. Senior eased freely after losing Potts at 66. Hargreaves never settled down. and with six good wickets gone for little over 180 Wath faced a serious situation, and their batting became more subdued accordingly. But the Brampton attack never relaxed and in the end Brampton gained a well-earned victory. The Brampton fielding left little to be desired. The side are showing improved form, and earlier weaknesses have been remedied.
