Surprise Goal which Caused Wombwell’s Exit.

The preliminary round of the qualifying stage of the F.A. Cup was played on Saturday. The unexpected happened at Bentley, where the Midland League team, Wombwell, lost to the Colliery team by the only goal of the match, scored from a first-time shot by McKenzie.

None of the Wombwell players anticipated the effort which brought the goal being made from so great a range. Subsequently Wombwell gave a smart display, but Bentley managed to keep them at bay. Yet both sides missed chances, especially Kennedy, of Wombwell, who struck the cross-bar from five yards’ range.
