Mexborough and Swinton Times July 1, 1928
It is always interesting to see ourselves as others see us.
Listen to these nice words by Mrs Ethel M Richards, headmistress of Barnsley Road Council Infants School, Wombwell who is retiring at the end of August.
“As I had the honour of having charge of an invalid for many years I was debarred from taking up any social work in Wombwell outside my school, but I have watched and admired the quiet unselfish life and valuable work of the miner for many years and it will be food for thought when I return to the South.
The people of Wombwell may be sure that I shall always have pleasure in speaking most highly of the well-meaning and friendly spirit of the Yorkshire miner and his family. Their genuine hospitality is amazing and I have had much joy in living among them.”
Anyone acquainted with Miss ‘Richards would know that she does not speak with her tongue in her cheek. We value her opinion because it is backed by experience wider than most members of the teaching profession can claim.
