Assistant Town Clerk of Gillingham

Mr. Reginald Hill, only son of Mrs. Hill, 202 Barnsley Road, Wombwell and the late Mr S. G. Hill has been appointed Assistant Town Clerk of Gillingham (Kent) subject to the ratification of the next full meeting of the Town Council.

Mr. Hill was formerly chief assistant to Mr. P. M. Walker, Clerk to the Wombwell Urban District Council.  Mr. Hill began his municipal work on the account’s staff at the Wombwell Town Hall.

Early in the war he joined the Royal Field Artillery and saw service in France.  For twelve months after hostilities ceased, he was with the Army of Occupation on the Rhine

He returned from war service to his post as assistant to the Wombwell Town Clerk, and seven years ago accepted the position of conveyancing clerk to the chief municipal officer at Wigan.  Very soon afterwards he was appointed Chief Assistant to the Town Clerk of Wigan and he has held that post up to the present.

Mr. Hill’s work at Wombwell was greatly valued by all associated with local government in the Dearne Valley area, and the news of his new appointment will be received with wide satisfaction in this district.

He is a brother of Mrs. Gordon Kilner, of 113 Barnsley Road, Wombwell, and another sister(Miss Ella Hill) is a teacher on the staff of the Girls’ Department of the Ardsley Council School.

Mr. Hill is 35 years of age and married.
