Fatally Injured in Canada

Mr. and Mrs. James McCue, of 1, Broomhead Road, Wombwell, received a telegram stating that their son, Flt.-Sgt. Alan Hopkins McCue (24).R.A.F., was in a hospital in Canada, following an injury received in active service.

Two days later they received a further message to say that he had died of his injuries. There was an imitation that further in formation would follow by letter.

Flt.– Sgt. McCue joined the R.A.F.seven years ago after being employed by Mr Roy Butterfield, Butcher, Wombwell.  He was an old boy of John Street and Modern Schools, Wombwell. For some time he was acting as the trainer pilot at a training school in England and four months ago went out to Canada.

His death occurred on July 15th.

Flt.– Sgt. McCue’s fiancée, Miss Edna Holden 26, Wath Road, Wombwell, is serving as a wireless operatorin the W.A.A.F.

Flt.– Sgt. McCue was born at Elderslie Glasgow. His father came to Wombwell for employment on Dearne District Light Railway 19 years ago.

A memorial service is to be held next Sunday evening at Wombwell Parish Church, where Flt.– Sgt. McCue was formerly a member of the Sunday school.
