Accident at Darfield Main
About 7.15 last night, a sad accident befell a youth named John Connolly, of 21 Milton Street, Wombwell, aged about 16.
The youth has only been in the company’s employ a short time, and was engaged at the slack grinding machine, and by some means he got his foot into one of the worms.
His cries brought the assistance of John Strickland, who was near at hand, who got hold of him, and the engine stopped at once, but on examining the boy it was found his foot was cut right off.
Mr Walton the manager and others rendered timely assistance and Dr Miller was quickly on the spot, but his injuries were of such a nature as to necessitate his removal to the Barnsley hospital.
