A Wombwell Separation.

Yesterday at the Barnsley West Riding Court, William Henry Dyson, a Wombwell miner, was summoned by his wife Isabella for desertion.

Mr. Rideal said the parties were married two years ago. Complainant had been defendant’s housekeeper for many years. Both had been previously married. Some sixteen years ago defendant himself told complainant that her first husband was dead.

On Whit-Monday defendant turned his wife out the house and had since declined to take her back. He could earn about £5 per week a miner and carter.

Defendant, represented by Captain Clegg, contended that the woman’s first husband was alive.

An order for 30s. per week was made, and defendant was informed that in the event of obtaining evidence ‘that the woman’s first husband was alive he could ask to have the order put aside.
