A Wombwell Pioneer
Player and Secretary.
Mr. John Pascoe has played a leading part in making the Wombwell Football club and as secretary has done inestimable service for the club.
His association with football began when he was a boy. Low Valley Wesleyans was the club with which he first played. He became captain of the team and assisted in its management. He was a utility man,but his favourite position was inside left. During the war he played for Wombwell Main and Broomhill Primitive. One of his distinctions is that he scored the first goal for the Wombwell club in their initial match, with Fryston in the Yorkshire League competition. He played regularly in the Yorkshire League eleven and was still a member when the Midland League competition was entered. He played till 1924, when an injured knee put an end to his playing career.
With a sound knowledge of the running of a club he then accepted the secretaryship and still holds that position. When he was appointed the club was in poor circumstances, but owing mainly to his able work a great change was made.
Mr. Pascoe is now well known over a wide area and is as popular an official as you can meet in South Yorkshire. He has now been for two years a member of the Wombwell Urban Council and has held other official posts in the town.
