Plucky Rescue.
Royal Humane Certificate.
A pleasing incident took place at the Rotherham West Riding Police Court on Monday, when George
Henry Wood, miner, of 23, Rother Road, Brampton Bierlow, received a Royal Humane Society Certificate for having, saved the life of a 5 ½ years old son of P.s. Galloway, of Wath -on-Dearne, on the 24th March.
Galloway and another child were sailing boats on the canal, when one of these got out of their reach. Galloway went in for it and got into difficulties.
Wood was walking along the road when he saw the other child running away. He looked to the canal and saw what he thought to be a dog, two hands appeared above the water and immediately Wood, although a poor swimmer, went in after Galloway. He succeeded in bringing him to the bank where artificial respiration was’ performed with success.
Supt. Horton said the police had done something for Wood in another way.
Mr. E. Rose, Chairman of the Bench. in presenting the certificate to Wood, said it gave him great pleasure to do so.
