Councillor F Collindridge
A fitting tribute to Councillor F. Collindridge’s trade union work was his election this week to the position of checkweigher for the Beamshaw Seam at Wombwell Main Colliery.
He was chosen out of ten candidates, and in the second of two ballots he polled 59 votes against his opponent (Mr. J. Kitchen) 46.
Mr Collindridge has served 11 years as a branch official at Wombwell Main, first as president and now as delegate. The men in the Beamshaw seam have special cause to appreciate his efforts on -their behalf as, I believe, he was chiefly instrumental, as the men’s representative, in fixing the price list. He has never sought and never enjoyed what is called a ” cushy ” job, but has hitherto worked at the coal face.
Mr Collindridge has been a member of the Council for the South-West Ward for eight years.

Where have all the swans come from ? The district has been almost congested with these stately birds in recent months. They are very welcome, of course. As many as 17 at once have been seen on the floods at Broomhill, others have settled on the canal.
