Railway Romance
An interesting romance of the railway lies behind a presentation which the staff of the L.M.S. line at Wombwell have made to Miss Jessie K. Denley, daughter of Mr. E. Denley, formerly stationmaster at Wentworth and Hoyland Common, and President of the Hoyland Common W.M.C.
Miss Denley, who has served fifteen years as a goods clerk at the Wombwell depot, is leaving to be married to Mr. E. Martin, station-maser at Seacombe and Egremont, Devon. The wedding will take place at Tankersley Parish Church on October 30th. The couple first met in connection with their work when Mr. Martin was a clerk at Wombwell. Since that time he has worked at Wentworth, Shrewsbury, Lime Street (Manchester), and has also been engaged on railway air services at Liverpool. From there he went to be stationmaster at Canada Dock, Liverpool.
The gift consisted of an inscribed clock and was handed over by Mr. L. Woodward who paid high tribute to Miss Denley’s efficiency and the loyal manner in which she has co-operated with the remainder of the staff.
