43 years ministry

There was a notable gathering at the Congregational Church, Wombwell on Thursday, when the members of that church celebrated its Jubilee.

A thanksgiving service was held in the afternoon and his sermon was preached by the Rev H Sewell of Leeds. Following the service a tea was held, and was attended by about 300 people, including Congregationalists from all the churches in the district.

In the evening a public meeting was held in the church, and is a leading feature of the Jubilee celebrations, Treasury notes to the value hundred £57 were presented in a handsome Morocco case, suitably scratch, to the Rev George Hadfield (picture) , pastor of the church, in recognition of 43 years faithful and valuable ministry in Wombwell.
