Private G.W. Tabor
(York & Lancs)

George William Tabor, of 49 Littlefield Lane, Wombwell, son of Mr AH Tabor, a well-known public man, has been killed in action. His officer, in a letter to the widow, writes:

“I regret to inform you that private GW Tabor was killed on the morning of July 7th at about 5 a.m. The Germans were attacking part of the trench that we captured and Private Tabor was carrying up bombs to reinforce the party. Open ground had to be crossed, and whilst on this your husband was sniped. He was one of the most valuable and efficient soldiers we had. His loss is keenly felt by us all, and on behalf of the officers and myself I beg to offer you very warm sympathy with you in your loss.”

Private Tabor has a brother serving with the K.R.R., one with the K.O.Y.L.I., and one who has been discharged unfit. His brother Thomas died in the South African War, and was the only one of the Wath volunteers who failed to return.
