1902 Concert Party at Wombwell Chapel

Here is another old-timer of Mount Tabor Wesleyan Reform Church, Mitchell Main, Wombwell.

It was taken about the year 1902 and shows the concert party based on that church which was then very popular among the entertainments available to Wombwell before the advent of the moving picture era.

The photograph is loaned by Mr Walter Raton, of 29, St. Vincent Avenue, Blackpool, formerly of Wombwell, who has sent it through his sister-in-law, Mrs C. Bristow, of 10. Ewden Road, Wombwell.

Most of those shown in the picture are still alive. What they depict here, is not clear but the boys seem very proud of their red, white and blue hula-hula skirts. And look at those aprons for “perfect whiteness”—

Perfect whiteness?—Yes, perfect whiteness!

The group are: Front—Alf. Robinson (assistant organiser), Billy Tate. Mary Parsons, Frank Parkinson, Lily Levitt, Oswald Bristtaan, Dora Bird, Walter Hilton, Florrie Brittain, Ike Taylor (organiser).

Back—J. W. Clarkson, Ada Tate, Fred Robinson, Emily Jennings, Ernest Lloyd, Evelyn Fisher, Frank Brayibrook, Ethel Lloyd.
