Denaby’s Dashing Display.

Denaby United 5  Wombwell  1

In a holiday ” Derby ” at Denaby, Denaby United outplayed ‘Wombwell completely from start to finish. They opened their scoring after seven minutes, when Cowan headed in from a corner kick, and before the interval increased their lead through Godfrey and Burkinshaw.

In the second half further goals for Denaby were added by Burkinshaw and Godfrey, after which Briggs broke away and, with a brilliant solo effort, scored Wombwell’s only goal.

The game thus ended in a. 5-1 defeat for Wombwell, and the result represented the play.

Denaby by this victory achieves the distinction of securing six points from three holiday games, and of making their record since they were last defeated, on January 6th, the distinctly creditable one of having secured 23 points out of a possible 26.

Wath So Near, Yet So Far.

Wath Athletic 0 Mexborough  0

Mexborough put up a much better show against, their local rivals at Wath, yesterday, than they did on their own ground on Good Friday, and managed to share the points in a goalless draw.

Both sides were obviously tired, and the shooting was weak, so that many chances were missed. Towards the end. Wath had the best of matters, but though they struck the woodwork three times there was no score.
