Mexborough Fail Again
Swinton gained their second victory over Mexborough this season at Hampden Road on Saturday. They sent Mexborough in to bat, dismissed them for 91, and went on to win easily by seven wickets. Mexborough’s inability to score was due mainly to the consistent bowling of Ellis (5 for 49) and Ellison (5 for 19). Kitchen was dismissed with only two runs scored, and S. White (21), Mexborough’s highest scorer, was caught and bowled at 39. Eric Brook (1) and C. Lawton (0), fell to Ellis’, bowling at 40. A. Vickers hit out breezily before he was dismissed.
Swinton’s first wicket fell at 45 when W. Broadhead (26) was bowled by T. Leach, who slowed considerably Swinton’s later scoring, and with 2 for 22 was Mexborough’s most effective bowler. J. Green batted confidently for 39, and G. Barnett was 19 not out.
Hickleton’s First Defeat

Riley (28), put a stop to the rot, adding 45 runs for the sixth wicket. Hanson in another bowling spell took three further wickets, and the innings closed at 125 when Gibb failed in trying to make a boundary stroke. E. Hanson had 6 for 56.
Earnshaw’s “Day Out”
A good stand by the “tail,” after the first seven wickets had fallen for 88 runs, helped Thorncliffe to beat Brampton by 121 runs. Thorncliffe’s eighth wicket put on 45 runs, and the ninth added 48. The innings closed at 185. W. Aynsley and E. Earnshaw each scored 50, other scorers being F. Hollingsworth (29). E. Stevenson (16), E. Marshall (12 not out). Denaby’s Poor Fielding
Rockingham, taking advantage of poor fielding, fully deserved their victory over Denaby winning with a few minutes to spare. Denaby scored 227. J. Wright (79), and Holland (50 not out), put on 70 for the third wicket. This was followed by a stand of 69 by Pegg (37) and Holland. Wright had one six and eleven fours, Holland two sixes and three fours, Pegg four fours. For Rockingham, Broadhead had 8 for 67.
From the start. Rockingham scored in an easy manner. Broadhead and Ivill added 96 in less than an hour. Ivill made 70, including two sixes and nine fours, and Broadhead 44, with one six and four fours. Other scorers were Fisher (16), Walker (23), and Stones (32). Rockingham’s final score was 229 for five.
White’s Amazing Bowling
A remarkable collapse by Wath resulted in their being beaten by 103 runs in their home match with Elsecar. Consistent batting enabled Elsecar to declare at 167 for 7 wickets, R. Bamforth scoring 56 not out. Useful contributions were made by J. Nortcliff (24), I. Baxter (16), F. L. Wrightson (16), and F. Bannister (15 not out).
- Rippon (28 not out) and C. Heaton opened well for Wath, but after the latter’s dismissal a collapse followed, due to the brilliant bowling of Bob White, who took 9 for 23 including the hat-trick. White’s last six wickets were claimed without a run being scored off his bowling.
