Midland League
Wombwell’s Plans
Nine New Players Signed
During the past few days the management Wombwell club have been very busy. Last week-end with teams to build for both the Midland and Sheffield Association leagues they had only a mere handful of players signed. Now they have players and to spare. Possibly there are one or two positions that will have to be strengthened, but for the moment they have enough material.
How the teams will shape in action remains to be seen.
Interesting football was seen in a practice at Hough Lane on Saturday. Among the plavers who pleased were Sage, an inside forward from Bolton-on-Dearne, who had earned a good deal of praise the previous week : Parkes, (picture) an outside-right from Hemingfield and Jones, a right back from Low Valley. Generally speaking the local players gave the best account of themselves. A fine combination was that of Joyce Ellis and Wright. Joyce is from Bradford, Ellis from Newhill, and Wright from the field district. They comprised one of the most formidable looking middle lines seen on the Wombwell ground. Ashmore again showed polish in his work at outside left and Hutchinson was outstanding at centre forward.
Despite the tendency all round to revert to the shilling gates, the Wombwell management have decided to adhere to their usual charge of 7d. (including tax). Unemployed supporters will be admitted at 4d. on production of their insurance cards. A charge of 4d will be made for the stand.
