Deputy Town Clerk of Hackney
Important Post for Wombwell Man
Mr. Reginald Hill, Solicitor and Deputy Town Clerk of Gillingham, Kent, has been appointed Deputy Town Clerk of Hackney. Hackney is one of the larger Metropolitan Boroughs which lies on the north-east side of the City of London and has a peace time population of some 215,000 inhabitants.
Mr. Hill served his articles with Mr. Robert Booth, the present Town Clerk of Gillingham (who incidentally hails from Brighouse) and qualified as a solicitor some three or four years ago. He has been at Gillingham since 1934 and prior to that was Chief Assistant in the Town Clerk’s Office at Wigan.
Mr. Hill was formerly on the staff of Messrs. Bury and Walkers at Wombwell, and was Managing Clerk to the late Mr. P. M. Walker when he left for Wigan in 1926.
Mr. Hill is the only son of the late Mr. S. G. and Mrs. Hill, of 202, Barnsley Road, Wombwell, and is the brother of Mrs. Gordon Kilner and Miss Ella Hill. He married Doris, the elder daughter of the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Swain, who resides with her other daughter, Mrs. Lilian Brook, at Brooklyn, The Ash. Wombwell. Their only son, Geoffrey, is now 16 years and attending school at Rochester.
The Deputy Town Clerkship of Hackney carries a salary of £850 rising to £1,000 per annum, and Mr. Hill has also been appointed Deputy Controller of the Civil Defence Services and Deputy Food Executive Officer of Hackney. He has held similar positions at Gillingham since the outbreak of war. Mr. Hill hopes to tale up his new appointment early in December.
