Ten Years Old Shane Has Won Another Medal

Although only ten, Shane Moore, only son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Moore of 31, Quest Avenue, Hemingfield, has won a Swimming Teachers’ Association badge for having completed a distance of 1,500 metres — some 65 lengths of the baths.

The examination was conducted at a Wombwell Swimming Club session at Wombwell Public Baths and the test was purely for distance. Commented Baths Manager. Mr. David Milner, “This is an extremely fine performance for a boy of his age.”

A pupil of Hemingfield Ellis School, Shane won a gold medal in a personal survival test last December, and has previously’ gained bronze and silver medals. He hopes to take a lifesaving test soon.

Shane learned to swim when he was six and his prowess is now far advanced for his years.

He is a member of Wombwell Swimming Club and has gained many medals in Club galas. He has mastered most swimming strokes, including breaststroke, backstroke, crawl and butterfly.
