Grave Injury to Wombwell Miner
After being knocked down by a railway engine, Charles Biram (30), miner, of 154. Pontefract Road. Broomhill. Wombwell, was still living In Mexborough Hospital to-night, though unconscious and gravely injured.
The accident occurred to-day about 100 yards from the crossing gates In Pontefract Road, Broomhill, when Biram was walking to work at Wath Main Colliery with George Pettinger, of 144. Pontefract Road, Broomhill. Pettinger was about six yards in front Biram.
Pettinger said their attention was on an approaching engine with wagons, when light engine came from behind and knocked Biram down. Biram, who had stepped of the path to avoid some rough ashes, was spun round by the wheels the full length the engine. His back and head appeared be hurt.
Workmen took off their coats to keep him warm. The engine driver ran to a signal box for assistance while Pettinger stayed the injured man. Mrs. Biram, who has two children, came out of the same hospital only a month ago after the birth baby.
Biram had his hand injured at work last week, but did not lay off.
